Me, Myself & Irene

Well my last post was about an earthquake... so why not make this one about a hurricane. I can't say very much about good old Irene, cause...well...um... I slept through it.... Which was probably for the best because I was less than prepared for Irene. I went out to buy batteries and a flashlight Saturday, but everything was sold out. So instead I went into the bakery across the street that was having a 50% off hurricane sale, bought myself a big old cake. Then I went to CVS and bought myself a bottle of wine. With a cake and wine in hand, I was ready to take on Irene!

Let's just say it was uneventful. Which led to an uneventful weekend. Which was sad, because Sunday was Scott's birthday. Despite minimal damage to Manhattan, most everything was closed down... including Starbucks! That's when you know there is a problem....

Not to say that people overreacted, because better safe than sorry right?? But didn't people know it was Scott's birthday! So wandering the streets, assessing the damage, we found a movie theater that was open! Hallelujah!!!

Watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes really put the whole earthquake/hurricane situation in perspective.... I mean at least it wasn't hyper-intelligent apes trying to take over NYC, in which case I may find it acceptable for places like Starbucks to close.

Scott and I then ventured out to find a place to have birthday dinner. We knew that not even a hurricane could shut down Time Square, so we walked way up there (about 50 blocks, cause the Subways were closed) to finally arrive at Planet Hollywood.

In all seriousness, I was thankful that the hurricane wasn't as bad as it seemed. Cause honestly, that cake was not so great (way too much frosting).
